The Federal Government has requested to withdraw the “illegal possession of firearms” case against the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, at the Federal High Court in Lagos.
Mohammed Abubakar, the Director of Public Prosecutions at the Federal Ministry of Justice, made an oral application to Justice Nicholas Oweibo, citing further investigations as the reason. However, Joseph Daudu, Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Emefiele’s counsel, opposed the request, stating that the government must address its disregard for the court’s bail order before the application is considered.
Justice Oweibo has set an adjournment for August 17, 2023, to make a ruling on the matter.
