The management of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, has dismissed the rumour making the round that it has slammed additional charges on students.
The institution addressed the issue on social media and firmly denied what it called “unsubstantiated claims” that it has imposed unauthorized additional charges on top of its previous fee adjustments.
In a statement signed by Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, Head, Communication Unit on Friday, August 18, 2023, it was established that the claims, which lack any supporting evidence, are completely false and misleading.
“These completely untrue and misleading claims misrepresent the facts, and aim to misinform the public into believing that there has been another adjustment of fees. For the avoidance of doubt, the University of Lagos Management hereby categorically states that this is not the case,” the statement read.
The school acknowledged the current economic circumstances in the country and added that up until the issuance of this disclaimer, no further notice of fee increments has been issued apart from the announcement of the “Adjusted Obligatory Fees for New and Returning Undergraduate Students” published in its Information Flash News Bulletin (Vol. MMXXIII, No. 80) and the school’s official website on Friday, July 21, 2023.
The University assured that it remains fully committed to upholding its core principles and is dedicated to ensuring that students receive an exceptional and unparalleled learning experience.
Remember that UNILAG recently gained attention for raising the fees charged to students, causing them to increase from N19,000 to N190,250. This move faced significant backlash from the public.
Subsequently, the university announced a measure to alleviate the impact of the fee increase by allowing students to make payments in manageable installments.
