President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday, granted his approval for the appointment of a fresh Board and Management team for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).


As per statements from Ajuri Ngelale, the Presidential spokesperson, the recently appointed Board and Management team are poised to usher in a new era of effective governance within the NDDC, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.

CHIEDU EBIE – Chairman – Delta

Chiedu Ebie is a multifaceted individual, excelling as a lawyer, oil and gas executive, entrepreneur, and dedicated public servant. He has a notable background as the former Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education in Delta State. Originating from Agbor-Alidinma in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, Chiedu Ebie’s accomplishments span various fields.

He completed his education at the University of Benin and the Nigerian Law School, earning degrees that set the foundation for his successful career. His legal expertise flourished in the corporate and commercial sphere in Lagos.

One of Chiedu Ebie’s significant roles was overseeing a Nigerian indigenous hydrocarbon exploration and production company with offices in Lagos and Port Harcourt. He dedicated substantial effort over the past decade to the development of this asset, culminating in plans for commercial production from the Oza asset starting in Q1 2015.

 

Chiedu Ebie’s journey also led him to serve as the managing director of Millenium Oil & Gas Company Limited, operating in Nigeria’s oil-rich Delta region. He played a pivotal role since the company’s inception in 2003, securing financing amounting to $30 million and steering exploration and production endeavors in the Oza marginal field. Additionally, Chiedu Ebie boasts a comprehensive background in corporate law, evident from his partnership with the law firm Okonjo, Odiawa and Ebie.

Notably, he contributed his expertise as a company secretary at Leaders & Company, the publishers of ThisDay Newspapers, even participating in the paper’s creation. Despite his numerous accomplishments, Chiedu Ebie encountered political challenges, facing suspension from the Peoples Democratic Party in April due to suspected anti-party activities.

DR. SAMUEL OGBUKU – Managing Director / CEO – Bayelsa

Meet Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, a seasoned political scientist and administrator with expertise in conflict resolution, youth leadership development, personnel management, entrepreneurship, and investment. With over two decades of experience in crisis management and capacity-building across various domains, he’s poised to make a significant impact at the interventionist agency.

Born on August 19, 1975, in Ayakoro, Bayelsa State, Dr. Ogbuku began his educational journey at Christ the King School, Oromineke, Port Harcourt, obtaining his First School Leaving Certificate in 1987. His educational pursuits led him to Government Secondary School, Borokiri, Port Harcourt, where he earned his West African School Certificate in 1993.

He furthered his education at the University of Port Harcourt, graduating in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Political and Administrative Studies. His academic achievements continued with a Post Graduate Diploma in Sociology, Industrial Relations, and Personnel Management in 2002, a Master of Science in Political and Administrative Studies (Development Studies) in 2013, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Political and Administrative Studies (Development Studies) in 2021.

Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Ogbuku held significant leadership and management roles, including serving as Personal Assistant to the Special Assistant to the Minister of State, Petroleum, from 2005 to 2007, and as Chief of Staff, Government House, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, from May 2007 to January 2012. His contributions extended to being the Managing Director/CEO of Fulfilled Farms Nigeria Limited from February 2012 to 2019.

Notably, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku was involved in various capacities alongside Chief Timipre Sylva, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, showcasing his close alliance. He also held the position of Senior Special Assistant on Niger Delta Affairs to the Deputy President of the Senate, Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege, before assuming the role of Managing Director/CEO of the NDDC.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Dr. Ogbuku holds the title of Traditional Ruler (Deputy Paramount Ruler) of Ayakoro Town, Bayelsa State. He’s renowned for fostering unity among communities within the state and the region.

BOMA IYAYE – Executive Director (Finance and Admin) – Rivers

Boma Iyaye is a distinguished figure hailing from Rivers State, known for his roles as an accomplished accountant, seasoned politician, and former Commissioner of Sports. Born on September 24, 1969, in Ogu Town, Ogu–Bolo, Rivers State, Nigeria, he has amassed a wealth of experience and achievements over the years.

His educational journey took him through State School II in Port Harcourt from 1974 to 1980, followed by Baptist High School for his secondary education from 1981 to 1986. Subsequently, he pursued Accountancy at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, which he successfully completed. Boma Iyaye further enriched his experience by fulfilling the mandatory National Youth Service Corps program.

Boma Iyaye’s professional career initially unfolded in the private sector, where he excelled as an accountant in various multinational companies from 1992 to 2003. Transitioning into politics, he made his mark by securing a seat in the Rivers State House of Assembly. Representing Ogu–Bolo, he served until 2007, holding the prestigious position of Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, among other responsibilities.

His dedication to public service was further evident when he assumed the role of Commissioner of Sports in the Wike Executive Council in December 2015. Notably, Boma Iyaye had previously held this office on two separate occasions: from April 2008 to June 2009, and then from July 2009 to June 2011.

On December 28, 2021, Boma Iyaye was accorded a distinguished honor, becoming the Chief of Chiri War Canoe House of Loko Group of Houses in Ogu Kingdom of Ogu-Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State. His commitment to his community and his accomplishments make him a remarkable figure in the region.

VICTOR ANTAI – Executive Director (Projects) – Akwa-Ibom

Rt. Hon. Victor Antai is a notable figure who has made significant contributions to governance and community development in Akwa Ibom. With a distinguished background in public service, he has held key leadership positions that reflect his dedication to bettering local government administration.

Hailing from Oro, predominantly situated in the southern region of Nigeria, within the riverine expanse spanning Akwa Ibom and Cross River States, Rt. Hon. Victor Antai’s journey in public service began with his appointment as the chairman of Mbo Local Government Council, where he served with distinction not once, but twice. This role allowed him to directly impact his local community, addressing its needs and advancing its progress.

Rt. Hon. Victor Antai’s commitment and competence led to his subsequent appointment as the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. This role speaks to his expertise in governance and his responsibility for overseeing matters related to local governance structures and traditional leadership.

Former Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Akwa Ibom State, Rt. Hon. Victor Antai has been appointed Executive Director of Projects in the new NDDC Board by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

IFEDAYO ABEGUNDE – Executive Director (Corporate Services) – Ondo

Ifedayo Abegunde, widely known as Abena, was the Secretary to the Ondo State Government. Born on May 5th, 1955, in Akure, he attended St. David’s Anglican Primary School and Oyemekun Grammar School before obtaining his OND in civil engineering from Yaba College of Technology.

Abegunde’s political journey began as NADECO’s secretary, followed by his successful 2003 House of Representatives election win representing Akure North and South federal constituency. He chaired the Ondo State Afforestation project and was reelected in 2011.

Appointed Secretary to the State Government in 2017 under Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu’s administration, he held this role until his 2020 resignation. In 2022, he lost his lawmaker position after decamping from the Labour Party to APC.

RT. HON. MONDAY IGBUYA – State Representative – Delta

He continued his academic pursuits at the College of Education in Agbor, Edo State, and in 1997, he obtained his Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE). In 2001, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Delta State University.

He has earned a distinguished reputation in Nigerian politics, characterized by his unwavering commitment to public service. Notably, he represented the Orhionmwon/Uhumwonde constituency in the House of Representatives during both the 8th and 9th National Assemblies, earning the nickname “Project Master.” His political journey took root as a Councillor in 2003 and blossomed as he progressed to become a member of the Edo State House of Assembly. Bolstered by a solid educational foundation, including a Bachelor’s degree from Delta State University, his dedication to fostering progress and development is resolute. A significant milestone in his career was his appointment as a Member Representative of Edo State on the NDDC Board by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023, further solidifying his influential role in Nigerian politics.

Serving as the Senator for Sokoto East from 2011 to 2023, Gobir’s journey in politics is marked by dedication and achievement. Notably, he held the esteemed position of Senate Majority Leader from July 2022 to July 2023, a testament to his leadership prowess.

Gobir’s academic accomplishments are equally remarkable. Armed with a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Detroit, USA, and a doctoral degree from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, his expertise has significantly contributed to his professional journey. His political ascent was marked by triumph, as he secured victory at the PDP primaries, emerging as the chosen candidate over the incumbent Senator. This paved the way for his successful election to the Senate, where his impact continued to grow.

In a remarkable turn of events, Gobir was selected as the Senate Majority Leader for the APC in July 2022, solidifying his position as a key influencer within Nigerian politics.

HON. NICK WENDE – Zonal Representative – North Central

Meet Hon. Nicholas Aondona Wende: A dedicated and dynamic individual with a diverse background that has shaped his journey in politics and public service.

Born on May 11, 1970, in Jos, Plateau state, Wende’s roots are firmly planted in Kwande Local Government, Benue state. His maternal home in Gwer East Local Government also adds to the rich tapestry of his background.

Growing up in a family of retirees and pensioners from the Benue state government, Wende’s path was one of determination and hard work. He pursued his education with zeal, gaining admission to Ahmadu Bello University Zaria in 1992. Despite the challenges posed by strikes and closures, he graduated in 1999 with a BSc in Building Engineering. His educational journey also included St Michael Secondary School, Aliade, and Demonstration Primary School, Makurdi.

His commitment to national service led him to complete his mandatory National Youth Service in Oron, Akwa Ibom state. His early career in the civil service began when Senator George Akume took note of his CV, leading to an appointment with the state Ministry of Works and Housing.

Wende’s political journey took a significant turn when he transitioned from civil service to politics. He served as the Commissioner for Water Resources and Environment, demonstrating his dedication to making a positive impact in his community.

HON. NAMDAS ABDULRAZAK – Zonal Representative – North East

A distinguished Nigerian veteran journalist and seasoned politician whose journey has left an indelible mark on both media and governance. Representing the Jada/Ganye/Mayo Belwa/Toungo Federal Constituency of Adamawa State in the Federal House of Representatives, Namdas has shaped policy and discourse in North East Nigeria.

With a remarkable political trajectory, Namdas was the spokesperson of the House of Representatives in the 8th assembly, showcasing his eloquence and communication acumen. His prior role as Chief Press Secretary to Governor Boni Haruna further demonstrates his expertise in strategic communication.

Namdas’s political journey is replete with significant appointments, including Deputy President of the Pan-African Parliament.
