The Osun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) reported that six lives were lost in a fatal accident on Imesi-Ile Highway.
The Sector Commander, Henry Benamesia, conveyed this distressing news through a statement by the command’s spokesperson, Agnes Ogungbemi, on Sunday in Osogbo, the state capital.
According to Benamesia, the accident occurred on Saturday at 9:44 pm when two vehicles collided head-on. The collision was attributed to the failure of the brakes on one of the vehicles, resulting in the tragic loss of six lives. Among the vehicles involved was an articulated vehicle, lacking a number plate, which collided with another blue commercial truck on Imesi-Ile hill. The collision’s severity was compounded by excessive speeding.
“We have five dead victims taken to the University Teaching Hospital in Osun (UNIOSUN) by the Nigeria Police before the arrival of the FRSC team.
“The last dead victim was trapped under the truck and we were able to use a machine to remove the trapped body from one of the vehicles,” Benamesia said.
He stated that the accident encompassed 17 individuals, with 11 emerging unscathed, unfortunately, six others tragically lost their lives.
He urged road users to adopt defensive driving practices as a means to avert accidents.
Nevertheless, Benamesia recommended that drivers exercise caution and confirm their vehicles’ optimal condition before commencing any journey.
