Viral pictures on social media have sparked speculations that the Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has returned to the country after spending three months on a medical trip to Germany.
Reports have it that the governor’s cabinet members were already in Ibadan to welcome him. Sources say the governor would arrive in Ibadan, where he would rest for a few days rest, before returning to Ondo State.
The governor’s wife, Betty Akeredolu confirmed news of his return on her X (Twitter) page. Mrs Akeredolu had taken a picture of her husband in an airplane and captioned it “Homebound”.
Also confirming the news, the Ondo State House of Assembly Majority Leader, Mr Wole Ogunmolasuyi, stated the governor was already in his Ibadan home.
“We thank God the governor has arrived in the country. He landed in Abuja and moved straight to Ibadan,” Ogunmolasuyi said
In June, Akeredolu had left the country for Germany to take care of his health, after suffering health challenges. The leave was later extended indefinitely by the state House of Assembly. Akeredolu had transferred power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, in line with the constitution.
Although the exact ailment Akeredolu was suffering from was not disclosed, it was speculated that he had cancer of the blood.
