The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Enugu has invalidated the election victory of Professor Sunday Nnamchi, the Labour Party candidate, for the House of Representatives seat in the Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency of Enugu State.
A three-member panel, led by A. M. Abubakar, on Friday, September 8, declared Hon. Prince Cornelius Nnaji of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the rightful winner of the February 25, 2023 election.
Prince Nnaji, a former Federal lawmaker, contested the outcome due to concerns about Prof. Nnamchi’s eligibility under the Labour Party. He contested the Independent National Electoral Commission’s declaration of Nnamchi as the election winner, arguing that the respondent lacked the proper sponsorship and qualifications to run as the Labour Party’s candidate.

The Tribunal, however ruled in favor of the petitioner, affirming that the Labour Party candidate was not qualified to run.
Consequently, this verdict has ignited celebrations throughout the 23 Wards of the Constituency.
