Revenge Porn: In this digital age, the invasion of personal privacy has become an alarming issue, with celebrities often finding themselves vulnerable to revenge porn – a troubling trend that continues to affect stars worldwide.

One such case that has captured recent headlines is that of Nigerian actress Moyo Lawal.

Revenge porn, also known as non-consensual pornography, refers to the act of sharing explicit or intimate content of an individual without their consent, often with malicious intent.

Unfortunately, celebrities, despite their fame and fortune, are not immune to this digital betrayal.

Moyo Lawal’s ordeal with revenge porn sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry.

On Saturday, September 9 2023, a private video involving the actress and her ex-fiancé surfaced online, igniting a frenzy of speculation and gossip.

Lawal, taking control of the narrative in a personal statement on her official Instagram page, acknowledged her presence in the video but vehemently denied any involvement in its distribution.

In her words;

“A private video of mine from a while ago has been inappropriately shared without my consent, violating my privacy and trust.”

Lawal’s case is not unique. Nigerian star singer, Tiwa Savage, faced similar challenge in 2022 when a private video of her having sex with an ex-lover surfaced online, prompting important discussions about privacy and consent.

Savage revealed that the blackmailer who is most likely her ex since his face couldn’t be seen, had requested for money and threatened to release the sex tapes to the public if he/she wasn’t indulged.

These incidents serve as stark reminders that, regardless of one’s fame, anyone can fall victim to revenge porn in today’s digitally connected world.

Meanwhile, Moyo Lawal’s response was swift and decisive. She declared her intent to pursue legal action against those responsible for leaking the video, emphasizing the importance of respecting boundaries and privacy.

“I want to emphasise that this video was done with my ex whom I was to marry at that time, was never intended for public consumption and its unauthorised distribution is a breach of my boundaries.  However this criminal breach of privacy will be treated with legal action,” the statement read.
