Tinubu Demands Answers to Recurring Boat Mishaps

President Bola Tinubu has called for a thorough and comprehensive investigation into the recurring tragic incidents of boat accidents across the nation.

The charge was made via a statement from the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.

Tinubu stressed the importance of holding government agencies accountable for any regulatory or safety lapses and emphasized the need for strict safety measures and enforcement in boating activities nationwide.

He also directed various government agencies, including law enforcement, maritime safety, and transportation safety authorities, to collaborate in identifying the causes of these unfortunate and avoidable disasters.

The President conveyed his deep sympathy to the families of the victims who tragically lost their lives in the recent and regrettable boat accidents in Mokwa Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger and Gurin village in Fufore LGA of Adamawa.

Additionally, he expressed support and solidarity with the governments and residents of Niger and Adamawa, commending their commendable actions in mobilizing emergency response teams and volunteers to aid the victims of these distressing incidents.

He extended his wishes for a speedy recovery to those who were injured in these incidents and provided assurance to the impacted families and communities that the government would continue to offer its support throughout this difficult time.

The incidents include a boat capsizing in Njuwa Lake, resulting in the tragic loss of approximately 15 lives, and another boat capsizing in Gurin of Fufore Local Government Area, Adamawa, as well as a boat accident between the Jebba and Kainji dams in Mokwa Local Government of Niger, where 26 bodies were recovered, and 44 individuals remain missing.

President Bola Tinubu extends his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims who lost their lives in the recent boat mishaps in Mokwa Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State and Gurin village, in Fufore LGA of Adamawa State, which tragically claimed many lives, including several children.

While expressing solidarity with the governments and people of Niger and Adamawa States as they swiftly mobilized emergency response teams and volunteers to provide immediate assistance to those affected by the incidents, the President wishes a most speedy recovery to those who were injured.

Furthermore, President Tinubu demands a thorough and comprehensive investigation into the recurring tragedy of fatal boat incidents across the nation.

The President directs various government agencies, including law enforcement, maritime safety and transportation safety authorities to collaborate closely in identifying the root causes of these unfortunate and preventable disasters.
