The whereabouts of Ondo State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, have become a matter of intense debate and concern.
The principal opposition party in Ondo State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), persists in raising inquiries about the State’s governance structure. This sentiment was articulated in a statement released by the PDP on Friday, in which they posed the question, “Where is Governor Akeredolu?”
This situation arises eight days after his declaration of returning from a three-month medical leave in Germany; nevertheless, the Governor remains notably absent from his official responsibilities within the state.
Governor Akeredolu’s prolonged absence has raised numerous questions and ignited a storm of controversy.
On Friday, September 8, 2023, he allegedly endorsed the establishment of 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) into law. Furthermore, on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, he terminated the appointments of media aides to Deputy Governor Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa. This development has sparked concerns within the political arena, prompting questions about the Governor’s relationship with his Deputy.
The PDP in Ondo State has openly challenged the Governor’s decision to convene meetings at his Ibadan residence instead of in Ondo State, where he was elected to serve. The party alleged that the Governor’s continued absence from the State is fueling speculation that he may have returned to Nigeria hastily to thwart a looming impeachment process.
It also questioned Governor Akeredolu‘s directive to upgrade his Ibadan residence to include a replica of the Executive Council Chambers raises questions about his intentions to make Ibadan the de facto capital of Ondo State.
The PDP’s State Publicity Secretary, Kennedy Ikantu Peretei, issued a stern statement urging Governor Akeredolu to return to Ondo State and fulfill his gubernatorial responsibilities.
“Our party wishes to advise Akeredolu to come to Ondo State to complete his tenure. But if he does not feel fit enough to resume, he can proceed on another medical leave instead of trying to pull wool over our eyes in Ondo State,” a part of the statement reads.
The Governor’s prolonged absence continues to stoke speculations among both citizens and influential political figures about the situation in Ondo State.

WHERE IS GOVERNOR AKEREDOLU?
The Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN is still nowhere to be found, eight days since he claimed he has resumed duties as Governor after his three months medical leave in Germany.
The Governor was reported to have signed the creation of 33 LCDAs bill into law, sacked the media aides of Deputy Governor Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa all from hiding.
Last week, the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Ondo State Chapter challenged the rationale for Akeredolu calling for a meeting in his Ibadan residence, instead of Ondo State where he was elected to govern. Up till this moment, the Governor has not been seen anywhere near Ondo State.
Akeredolu is beginning to fuel media speculations that, against the advice of his doctors he was hurriedly brought into Nigeria to foil an impeachment process. He also ordered an upgrade of his Ibadan residence to include a replica of Executive Council Chambers, from where he intends to hold Exco meetings. Does Akeredolu want to make Ibadan the capital of Ondo State? What is the hurry to resume all about, if he cannot come to Ondo State? Would it not have made more sense if he was still attending to his health abroad? Why did he say he has resumed when indeed he has not?
Our party wishes to advise Akeredolu to come to Ondo State to complete his tenure. But if he does not feel fit enough to resume, he can proceed on another medical leave instead of trying to pull wool over our eyes in Ondo State.
Kennedy Ikantu Peretei.
State Publicity Secretary, PDP, Ondo State.
