President Bola Tinubu on Friday gave his endorsement for Dr. Olayemi Cardoso to serve as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, initially for a five-year term, subject to Senate confirmation.
“This directive is in conformity with Section 8 (1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, which vests in the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the authority to appoint the Governor and four Deputy Governors for the Central Bank of Nigeria, subject to confirmation by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” a statement released on Friday, as disclosed by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
The statement is named ‘President Tinubu’s Selection of New CBN Governor and Management Team for Senate Review and Confirmation.’
Tinubu has additionally endorsed the selection of four new Deputy Governors for the Central Bank of Nigeria, each for an initial five-year term, awaiting Senate confirmation. These appointees are Mrs. Emem Usoro, Mr. Muhammad Dattijo, Mr. Philip Ikeazor, and Dr. Bala M. Bello.
