The Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State has granted amnesty to four repentant cultists.
Dr. Salisu Umar, the Rector of the polytechnic, made this announcement on Wednesday during a special address to the repentant cult members.

Dr. Umar emphasized the importance of a safe and nurturing academic environment, urging all students of the institution to renounce their membership in cults. This move aims to promote a peaceful and conducive atmosphere for learning and personal development within the campus.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the four former cultists publicly renounced their membership in secret cult groups. This significant event took place during a renunciation program organized by the polytechnic’s management in Auchi, Edo State.

The Auchi Polytechnic’s decision to grant amnesty to these repentant cultists underscores the institution’s commitment to eradicating cult-related activities and fostering a secure environment for both students and staff.

”Renouncing cultism means abandoning reckless lifestyle and evil ways, adding that no good thing comes from the devil.

“Auchi Polytechnic in a bid to establish zero tolerance for cultism has organised this renunciation programme.

“This renunciation programme is a kind of amnesty to enable staff and students who are cultists to renounce membership of such cults.

“After the renunciation programme, any staff or students who  gets involved in any cult related activities, will face appropriate penalties and punishment,’’ the rector said.

He emphasized that combating cultism requires the collective efforts of all individuals involved.

“Churches and Mosques are not left out in the fight against cultism, they should also establish strong youth departments and programmes where youths can be mentored regularly, “he said.

He encouraged fellow students who were not ready to publicly renounce their memberships to consider doing so.

Prior to this, Mr. Daniel Osita, who shared his testimony as a former cult member, praised the students for their decision to renounce cultism.

”By this decision  you have opened positive doors to your futures,” he said.

He counselled the students to exercise caution when making life choices, highlighting that the decisions individuals make can significantly impact their future, either positively or negatively.
