Olayemi Michael Cardoso has assumed the role of acting governor at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), following his nomination by President Bola Tinubu.
However, his appointment is pending Senate confirmation. This change in CBN leadership came after the resignation of Godwin Emefiele from the governorship.
In a statement issued by the CBN and signed by Isa AbdulMumin, the Director of Corporate Communications, it was announced that Deputy-Governors-Designate have also taken on acting roles, filling the vacancies left by Mr. Folashodun Shonubi, Mrs. Aishah Ahmad, Mr. Edward Lametek Adamu, and Dr. Kingsley Obiora.
Cardoso and his colleagues recently took their oaths of office in a brief ceremony held at the CBN’s headquarters in Abuja. They are now responsible for overseeing monetary and financial sector policies on behalf of the federal government.
Cardoso holds degrees from Aston University in the United Kingdom and the Harvard Kennedy School in the United States. These appointments were made on September 15, 2023, with confirmation by the Senate pending.
