Illegal structures: In a determined move to enforce urban development regulations, the Lagos State Government (LASG) has intensified its efforts to combat unauthorized and illegal constructions in the region.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Oluyinka Olumide, reiterated the state’s uncompromising stance during a recent inspection of the Lekki/Ajah corridor.

During the inspection, the commissioner oversaw the sealing and partial removal of several structures that violated the established building guidelines. Notably, he emphasized the imminent consequences for those erecting buildings without proper authorization. Specifically, he issued a stern warning to owners and developers with structures positioned beneath power lines, providing them a two-week ultimatum to vacate the premises.

Highlighting the importance of maintaining the integrity of power lines for their designated purpose, he stressed that no structures should encroach upon these designated areas, which are reserved solely for the open display of goods and services.

Expressing concern over the pervasive disregard for physical planning regulations across the state, the commissioner made it unequivocally clear that the implementation of the law would spare no exceptions.

Emphasizing the necessity of a livable and sustainable built environment, he assured the public that the enforcement of regulations would remain indiscriminate, with no favoritism extended to any parties.
